Description
The Pelham Double Jointed Short Sweet Iron is a hybrid bit that offers the benefits of both snaffle and curb action — all in one refined design. It allows riders to apply direct pressure on the mouth while also engaging leverage through the shanks, distributing pressure between the mouth, poll, and chin. This dual-action makes it an excellent choice for horses that need additional support or improved balance without resorting to stronger options.

Made from sweet iron, the mouthpiece naturally oxidizes during use, which stimulates salivation and encourages the horse to stay soft and accepting in the mouth. This contributes to a more supple contact and a calmer, more confident way of going.

The double-jointed mouthpiece distributes pressure evenly across the tongue and bars, preventing the nutcracker effect and offering a smooth, stable feel. Horses that benefit from balanced pressure and a bit that follows the shape of the mouth often respond particularly well to this design. Care & use

After each ride, rinse the bit with warm water and dry with a soft cloth. Over time, the sweet iron will develop a light patina — a natural oxidation process that enhances taste and acceptance. Store in a dry place and check regularly for smooth, even wear.
